Home School Hell With Saint Corona Up To Bat: A Widowed Father's 70 Days In E-Learning Captivity Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 111 ratings

Home School Hell is for every parent sentenced to remote learning prison, where the simple task of educating our children at home is like catching a murder hornet.

Laugh-out-loud funny, this book wryly captures the humorous daily struggles of a widowed father of four young children. Common Core math, lice shampoo in the eyes, infected Monopoly dice, and Styrofoam heads for pop bottle projects are only the beginning of the chaotic adventures, many of which are now all too familiar to parents turned remote learning teachers.

In between laughs is a poignant letter to his wife, telling her what has happened here on Earth, and how in the year 2020, when everything stopped, we had a better chance to see. The value of a teacher. The courage of those who risk their lives to save ours. The unfairness of disease. How we need hugs, lots of hugs. The gift of time. And the power of humor in the most difficult moments of our lives.

It’s a book not only for parents but every person in this country right now who could really use a smile.

The book is a great read for anyone that went through the pandemic. Single parents with school children will undoubtedly relate to the the daily struggles and joys described in the book. Any parent, whether their child is grown or still growing, can relate to the many stories on a daily basis and the trials and tribulations the family suffers through together. Everyone should enjoy the humor that you'll find in the stories on virtually every page. It's an easy read.

This was a delightfully entertaining book and a must read for any parent experiencing home school or home work hell.

I do not envy any parent who had to live through the school shut downs. My heart goes out to those having to make a choice between sending your kids back to school or keeping them at home for longer.

Filled with humor about family life, the school system and living through the lock-down … it brought a very needed "light spot" to my day.

Not having contact with school age kids at this point … I wondered if the homework examples are for real?

IF they are I am appalled. I have made my living as a writer for over 40 years. I have never mapped a sentence and don't see any real life reason to do so. I could not answer any of the homework questions. Dave's responses to total stupidities seemed quite appropriate.

If you have school aged children … get this book. If you are home schooling … GET THIS BOOK because you need a bit of comic relief and this book will give it to you.

When I started reading this book, I was laughing so hard, tears were running down my face and I could not see. Dave perspective of life is so spot on. My heart really goes out to all the parents and teachers who are experiencing this eLearning in todays world. Dave shows great humor and perspective in life raising 4 kids as a widower. Every person should read this book. I hope you enjoy it as much I did. Just glad I did not have to deal with that principal Margaret, she sounds very scary. Hope she does not correct my grammar on this review. LOL

One cannot read this book and not laugh out loud over and over again. Dave Heilmann has created a unique blend of humor, and poignant stories, to uplift all of us as we head into yet another month of COVID. We can unite behind the common travails of every day life and cheer for the power of family to overcome adversity and bring light into the darkness. There are valuable lessons to be learned for parents, teachers, and business leaders on the way light can help us carve a path forward, even when the map has blown out the car window.

Even if I didn't know the author personally, and his family, I would love this book.
What a year this has been. And at times, it seemed like there was no humor to be found. This book brings it in spades!
Dave is an amazing storyteller, with wit, humor, and love on every page. He says all the things we are thinking, especially those of us unable to express those thoughts as perfectly as he does.
I think we all need to have a good laugh out loud, and this book will deliver! You'll be glad you did!

I loved every bit of this book. If you’ve had to step into the role of at-home teacher - even for one day - you’ll relate.  And laugh. And laugh some more. The author begins with a touching letter to his wife in Heaven, and then jumps back into life with his four adorable kids as they navigate the brave new world of stay-at-home safety measures. Love is all around. And, as the author clearly demonstrates, humor is a powerful component of healing and coping.

I enjoyed this book mostly due to the way Dave writes in short, funny phrases and ties ideas back to ones previously discussed in earlier parts of the book. That is was written like a diary, but with his late wife, Erica as the audience. It was touching and funny and very relatable. I will send copies to my friends with children who are still, in 2021, home schooling their children due to the pandemic in hopes of raising their spirits with laughter.

This is a heartwarming, humorous, sweet, humorous, bittersweet, humorous, touching, and did I mention humorous account of a widowed father's trials and tribulations regarding home schooling his four children during the Covid-19 pandemic. You will laugh, you will cry. I've known author Dave and his beloved Erica for years and I know Erica is watching from above and guiding all of them through this journey.

I enjoyed the story, it’s 2022 and Covid is still here, who knew that at the end on this story it was only the bringing. I’m still doing distance learning paired with school time and this week another increase in Covid #’s. We are braver still, optimistic and hopeful after 2 years with no end in sight.
